Kwik Fit copyright infringement

You would have thought that the so called copy right infringement would be related to a logo, text or something else that belongs in theory to somebody else. But no, not in this case. Kwik Fit stands accused of playing their radios so loud that they can be over heard and therefore should be considered as a performance.

The Performing Rights Society who collects royalties on behalf of their clients, who are mainly publishers, songwriters, and composers, has brought a law suit against Kwik Fit to the “tune” of £200,000. Businesses which play music need to acquire a licence, but in this case it was the employees of Kwik Fit who was playing the music.

The result of the case could have serious effects on many UK businesses, as not everyone can afford massive fines like £200,000!
