£4,500 per month to live in tube

It may sound like the latest in a long line of reality TV programmes where contestants are put through embarrassing and yet strangely entertaining tasks. However, this is no TV show it is a step forward to the first manned mission to Mars.

Six volunteers will be sealed into the metal containers that are located inside an unassuming building in Moscow.

The lucky six were chosen from over four thousand applications from all around the world, they will have monitors placed on their bodies and will have to survive on frozen baby food and cereal bars.

For their trouble, the volunteers will be paid around £13,500 for the three month stint, which is not bad money in the current climate.
