Wiki plea’s for cash

Is the world’s most favourite online encyclopaedia, Wikipedia running into financial difficulties? Regular visitors to the site could not have escaped the flashing banners, which appear constantly asking for donations to the site.

In fact things have progressed slightly further now with the founder Jimmy Wales replacing these pleas for a more personal approach, but the message is the same, Wiki needs a cash injection on a regular basis in order to survive.

One thing that has never really been tried is the lack of advertising on the site; if they had gone along this route then maybe the situation would not have been so severe. Although the lack of advertising does prompt the question as to the seriousness of the situation.
