Google nearly charged as a monopoly

Some people are still wondering why on earth Google stopped at the last minute from completing an advertising deal with another search engine, Yahoo.

The very thought of a partnership between Google and Yahoo makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.

This is exactly what the Justice Department thought too and in order to put the brakes on a stretched out legal battle, it seems like the only thing to do was to walk away from the deal.

It turns out that the Justice Department was only three hours away from filing a antitrust lawsuit against the deal, this would have tied the two firms up in legal paperwork for a long time and even then the is no guarantee that there would have been a deal at the end of it for either company.
