UK produces more wind power

With the opening of the latest wind farm developments just off the coast at Skegness, the UK has overtaken Denmark as being the world’s leading producer of offshore power produced from the wind.

Offshore wind farms now produce around 590 megawatts (MW) this is enough to provide power for around three hundred thousand homes, although this is set to rise because there are around five other offshore wind farms being built, this will take the total power output to around 1500 MW by the end of 2009.

Yet despite this, there are claims that the UK are well behind the rest of the European Union when it comes to the total output and how much of that output comes from renewable sources. Therefore, it would seem that there is still a long way to go.
