Bank details found on eBay
Anyone looking on eBay will know that there are hundreds of computers for sale and that when buying second-hand computer you never really know what you are going to get.
In this case a laptop sold for a mere £35 actually contained the personal details of over a million bank customers, this is included name, address, phone numbers, account numbers, sort codes, credit card numbers and the all important mother’s maiden name.
With these details, an ID thief could have made a fortune on the black market, but fortunately for the customers of Nat West, Royal Bank of Scotland and American Express an honest individual who reported the banks error in order to expose this lake of security by an archiving company purchased the computer.
