Torrent Spy closes down

It was not that long when Torrent Spy was the most visited Bit Torrent site in the world. But all that changed a little over a year ago when the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) obtained a ruling from a Federal Judge. This ruling would have meant that Torrent Spy would have to have monitored its users, keep detailed logs of all of the activity of them and then pass this information over to the MPAA.

So in response and in order to protect their users privacy, Torrent Spy did the only thing possible to prevent the MPAA obtaining these logs and that was to block access of the US based users. As business decision this was a total disaster, but they put their users before anything else.

However revenues quickly fell away and the MPAA would not give up, they still wanted the logs of the users. This has been followed by a year long battle through the courts, which has finally lead the site owners the only option left to them which would protect the identity of their users and that is to close the site down once and for all.
