A real challenge to Office

It would seem that for the first time in around ten years Microsoft’s Office Suite could have a real challenger for supremacy of the desktop. The challenge is coming from Open Office who has been in the ball park for some years, but never really in the game.

When Open Office version 2.4 emerged, it was looked at as being definitely not being a challenger to the strength of the mighty Office Suite, but 2.4 is now history and so it is going to be up to the new and much improved Open Office version 3.0 promises to be very different and very much a contender for the title race.

The new product will be able to compete with Microsoft Office Suite in every way, apart from one of the more important factors and that is email, Outlook remains the superior email application and is something that Open Office has never been able to conquer. They were in talks with Mozilla which would see Thunderbird included in the Open Office package and would not do Mozilla any harm either.
