National shopping habits change

Every year the office of national statistics draws up the UK’s shopping basket, this is the products that we are buying in the stores and every time this happens the products at the top swap around as some become more popular, while others may fall out of favour with the UK shopping public.

WHAT’S IN:

Pure fruit smoothies
Peppers
Muffins
Crate of lager (20 x 330ml)
Next day delivery of flowers

WHAT’S OUT:

Lager stubbies
Microwave ovens
Top 40 CD singles
Car steering lock devices
35mm camera film

It would seem that we are becoming more health conscious, with fruit and vegetables being some of the country’s favourite purchases, but these are only the real changes, the list has not changed that much and shopping habits also reflect the state of the economy too, so it will be interesting to see the changes for next year.
