Copying a CD could cost $1.5 million

Even though there has been a lot work done to protect the interests of the music industry apparently there more provisions to be introduced which promises to protect the music industry even further by laying out exactly how much the penalties are for intentionally copying music from CD’s.

They have come up with an ingenious plan which instead of being fined for the one incident, the principle is now for a charge on each count of copying, like one track will cost a $150,000 (£75,000) this means the average CD could cost a person $1.5 million (£750,000) if it becomes law.

This could be a serious problem for anyone that copies music, the trouble that the music industry has is proving these offences, hopefully they are looking towards stopping pirated copies, rather than just anyone that they happen to have discovered who has copied a CD for their mother.
